How to Get Wedding Photography and Videography on a Budget

Wedding flowers will most likely only last a few days, but your wedding photography and videography will last a lifetime. You want your wedding photography to be a fantastic representation of you because it will be displayed in your home and your video will be shared with everyone you know. Hiring professional wedding photographers and videographers is the only sure way to get a fantastic experience and high-quality photos of your most precious memories. On average, most experienced wedding photographers will charge between $4-5000 for a full-day wedding shoot. It may be tempting to hire a friend or a less experienced photographer, but you will almost certainly end up returning to a professional for a re-shoot in the future! (Yes, that has happened!) One of the biggest regrets many couples have even years after their wedding day is not hiring a seasoned professional.

“CHOOSE THE RIGHT STYLE”

Finding a photographer and videographer who matches your style and captures your true self is critical. Above all, you want high-quality images and video that will stand the test of time.

Don’t forget the preparation

Never ever think of giving up. Winners never quit and quitters never win. Take all negative words out of your mental dictionary and focus on the solutions with utmost conviction and patience. The battle is never lost until you’ve abandon your vision.

But what if you’re really exhausted physically, mentally, and most of all emotionally? Here are some sources of motivation to prompt you in reaching the peak of accomplishment.

SEARCH FOR PACKAGES THAT MEET YOUR BUDGET.
As the saying goes, “don’t try on the dress before reading the tag!” Make a list of the items that must be included in your packages. This will greatly simplify the search and process. Then, before you commit to a specific photographer’s or videographer’s portfolio, you’ll be prepared for their price ranges. Plan ahead of time to budget for an engagement session or albums, extra hours of coverage, and so on, so there are no surprises later.

AFTER THE WEDDING, BUY PRINTS AND ALBUMS
Don’t be concerned about prints or albums for the time being. Most photographers keep images on file for many years if they are not in your budget. If you’re on a tight budget after your wedding, you could even consider having an album made as a gift for your parents. Setting aside money for professional heirloom prints is something you can do after your wedding. Inquire with your photographer if their packages include a print credit.

SUPPORT THE LOCAL
If you need to travel, the prices of professional photographers and videographers skyrocket. If travel expenses are within your budget, that’s fantastic! In this case, we would still recommend bringing them along. If it is out of your budget, consider looking into photographers in the area where you will be getting married.

SELECT ONE LOCATION
Having a single location for both your ceremony and reception simplifies planning and budgeting. If you have everything in one place, you will save time (and money) on travel between locations for both your photographer and videographer. Transportation is another area where you will save money!

COMPROMISE OR INQUIRE ABOUT CUSTOMIZED PACKAGES
If you’ve exceeded your budget and are unable to complete your photography or videography project, you have a couple of options. You can make a compromise by removing something from your day (for example, reception coverage), or you can ask your wedding photographer and videographer if they can modify a package to meet your needs. Is there, for example, a slightly reduced rate for a package that does not include an engagement session or an album? Could they take out a second shooter to save you some time?
